New Screening Announced: The Guard
We're delighted to announce a late edition to the Branchage 2011 programme: We'll be showing THE GUARD - the new odd-couple buddy cop film starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle.
This will be your only opportunity to see The Guard on the big screen in Jersey, brought to you by JTC, Aegis Film Fund Limited and Prescience.
Empire Magazine described the film as: 'Among the most purely entertaining films of the year, which cuts its laughter with a dose of Celtic Melancholy.'
In a nutshell:
Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson in an Oscar worthy performance) is a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought the straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) to his area. The debut feature from writer director John Michael McDonagh (brother of In Bruge director Martin McDonagh) is where the buddy movie meets fish-out-of-water shenanigans. The script crackles with memorable one-liners, the rapport between Gleeson and Cheadle is note-perfect and the film’s observations on small-town life are piercing and hilarious.
But WHERE and WHEN can we see it?
Saturday 24th September, 3pm, at the Cineworld.
