ISLANDERS AWARDS NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

Branchage has received over 70 entries for the Channel Islanders Film Award, and our programming team in London have chosen 16 titles to be screened, which are therefore nominated for the £10,000 prize and 2 runners-up prizes of £1000 each.

The nominated films are as follows:

The nominated films will be screened during in different programmes throughout the four day festival, and the three winning films will be announced and screened again at the Jersey Arts Centre at 2pm on Sunday 28th September.

THE ISLANDERS FILM AWARD JURY:

REBECCA MARK LAWSON (Lifesize Pictures / UK Film Council)
Rebecca manages the short film programmes and schemes on behalf of the UK Film Councils New Cinema Fund. Through the production company Lifesize Pictures, she is responsible for overseeing all of the funds Short Film Schemes including Digital Shorts, Cinema Extreme and the Completion Fund. She was formerly the Development Executive for New Talent at EM Media, the Regional Screen Agency for the East Midlands.

JAMES MULLIGHAN (Shooting People)
James is the Creative Director of Shooting People, the world's largest independent film network, with over 37,000 members in the UK and US. James has sat as a juror for the CobraVision Short Film Awards, the London Short Film Festival Shooting People Award, the Propeller TV ShortFest, and the Friend's of the Earth's Green Film Competition. James sits on the Advisory Board of the Sheffield DocFest, and is a member of the British Independent Film Awards Screening Group.

DEPUTY KEVIN LEWIS (Jersey Forum Cinema)
Kevin has shown a great commitment to cinema in Jersey, from running the Cine De France independent cinema since 1973 and the Jersey Film Festival, which has screened in Howard Davis Park for 17 years, and also reviving the 1935 art deco Forum Cinema (formerly the Odeon). He was also involved in the making of BERGERAC in the 1980s.

JOHN DAVEY (Spearpoint Ltd)
John is the CEO of Spearpoint Limited which is an independent investment boutique based in Jersey. Prior to joining Spearpoint John was the CEO of Collins Stewart (CI) Limited which is the largest stockbroker in the Channel Islands. John is also the owner of Defiant Productions which completed its first feature film last year, LOVE ME STILL, screening at Branchage.Defiant currently has a second film in development which should begin to shoot in September of this year.

TRAILERS GO LIVE

Every film needs a great trailer to whet the appetite of the cinema-goer. But in order to reflect the scope and diversity of films due to be screened at the 1st BRANCHAGE Jersey International Film Festival in September, the festival commissioned American filmmaker Brian Liu and Jersey-born Michael Pearce to shoot not one but eight unique trailers. MY WINNIPEG

01st July 08

Inspired by the release of MY WINNIPEG, Soda Pictures in conjunction with Four Docs, 3 Minute Wonder, Branchage, Jersey International Film Festival & Destination Winnipeg will be launching the filmmaking competition ‘Your Winnipeg'.

Entrants are invited to submit a 3-minute documentary about their hometown being as experimental and creatively adventurous as they dare!

Guy Maddin will join a jury of industry professionals to select the winning entry, which will be screened on Channel 4 and included on the DVD release of MY WINNIPEG. The winner will also be rewarded with £1500 and a holiday to Winnipeg, Canada. 3 runner-up films will also be screened on Channel 4 and the winners will receive £1500. A selection of further films will join the prize-winning entries and be shown at Branchage Film Festival late September.

Full details will be available at YOUR WINNIPEG when it officially launches on July 1st.

JERSEY UNTAPPED AT EDINBURGH  FILM FESTIVAL

Branchage hosts an industry event at Edinburgh International Film Festival

Mercure Point Penthouse

Creative Director of the festival Xanthe Hamilton, and Programmer, Philip Ilson, bring together a top panel of Jersey local film and finance industry heads along with representation from UK film production, to discuss the incredible opportunities that the Island of Jersey has for filmmakers and producers such as investment, locations and co- production.

TRAILERS COMMISSIONED

18th June 08

Branchage has commissioned Michael Pearce and Brian Liu to make this years festival trailers.

Jersey born Michael, who has recently graduated from the National Film and Television School will be working alongside Washington DC based award winning documentary director Brian Liu to make a series of trailers. Both have invested in wellies and learned the basics of Jérriaise for the job.

BOOTCAMP LAUNCHES

18th June 08

Win a place on an intensive filmmaking course and be mentored by industry professionals to make a film which will be screened at the 1st Branchage, Jersey International Film Festival.

Branchage Bootcamp Competition Launch Preview Wednesday 18th June 2008 at the Société Jersiaise 6pm - 8pm. Come along for the presentation and a glass of wine. The official competition is launching on Thursday 19th June 2008. The competition is open to anyone aged between 18 - 25 years old.

12 semi-finalists win a mobile phone! 6 winners get to come on the Bootcamp during the festival and work with Broadcast Directors to make their films and get them shown at the festival!!

FREE SCHOOL MATINEE

18th June 08

Oscar winning animation Peter and the Wolf will be screening at the Jersey Opera House on Friday 26th September. There will be an evening Gala performance and school matinée.
