DOCUMENTARY DIRECTORS LAB 2011 

20 - 21 SEPTEMBER 2011, JERSEY

The Documentary Directors Lab is a 2-day intensive workshop for international filmmakers working on development of their documentary films. 

Taking place in Jersey, Channel Islands, in the days preceding the Branchage International Film Festival 2011, the course focuses on the creative development of your projects.

Lauren Simpson, the producer of JUST DO IT will be hosting a session on the importance of building a campaign around your film, and how to find an audience.

Natasha Dack of Tiger Lily Films whohas produced several successful films including the Locarno Golden Leopard 2009 award winning feature SHE, A CHINESE, C4 BAFTA and RTS award winning feature length drama, PLEASURELAND, the critically acclaimed documentary BLACK POWER SALUTE, and Caligari Film Prize (Berlin), Best International Documentary (HotDocs) and Best British Feature Documentary (BritDoc) winner 37 USES FOR A DEAD SHEEP. 

Hannah Patterson (BRIT-DOC Pitch winning SHELTER IN PLACE) will be hosting a session on pitch development. 

The DOC LAB will end in a Pitch Session to a panel of Industry Experts including Charlie Philips from Doc Fest who will all give the filmmakers feedback on their projects and advice on the next steps moving forward.

As well as developing your treatments and script ideas, the Lab looks towards production, navigating each of the stages beforehand and helping you to prepare for the journey ahead. The two-day event ends in a Pitch Session, helping filmmakers focus their projects into the best shape possible. The three best projects win the opportunity for follow-up development sessions with Industry Filmmakers after the event.

The Lab participants also go out for dinner together, and have the chance to talk to the tutors in an informal setting.

All filmmakers participating in the Lab will receive a free pass for the Branchage International Film Festival 2011. To apply you need a 1000 word treatment of your documentary film project. You may have begun researching or filming, and we will accept applicants up to rough-cut stage.

This 2 day course costs £250.00 which includes tuition and refreshments, and a Branchage Festival Pass.
